Lost among tall trees, buried under moss and surrounded by thistles, brambles and wasteland, you couldn’t see the whole building.
There were no driveways to get around the property and we had to shovel some tree stumps so that we could have access to the buildings. Sand, concrete and material delivery trucks got stuck in he turns.
The first phase of work concerned the East wing.
It wasn’t my first renovation experiment. I had carefully prepared all my plans, then I only had to follow my own instructions or so…since you have to be prepared for the unexpected when renovating old buildings.
I can remember it was at the beginning of 2006, a mild winter indeed, because due to all my efforts, I never felt cold. No time to moan in Frévent.
My lifelong tools were there to help me move around in this world of mud and cement dust. Every night, I could remove another stone on my way to the final result, making my contribution to the new building.
